Upcoming Webinar on Biophotonics

Later this month, DIRDI will be hosting the first of our series of online webinars entitled ‘Biophotonics: A Marriage of Sciences’. Our speaker will be Professor John Girkin, a distinguished physicist at Durham and a fellow of DIRDI, the Institute of Physics, the Wolfson Research Institute for Health and Wellbeing, and the Optical Society of America. Professor Girkin’s work is interdisciplinary, reaching across physics and the biosciences.

Due to the complexity of many problems in today’s modern world, interdisciplinary approaches are now becoming a standard route to answering challenging questions. Biophotonics, the integration of optics and photonics with instrumentation to help answer complex biological questions, has been a very successful collaboration for around thirty years. This webinar will look at some examples of the way that Biophotonics has delivered answers to significant research questions and will explore ways that the lessons from research in this area can now be applied to develop new interdisciplinary successes. Examples will range from the development of modern DNA sequencing technology through cell signalling to dental diagnosis.

Registration for this online webinar is free for all to attend. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity, by reserving your place now!
